Studio Brief 3- Moving Images

I did it!!!
Is it vain to say i'm quite happy with myself?

The after effects workshops made a lot of sense and i really enjoyed being taught a new skill- however it was very scary translating that into my own practice.
On the other hand, i feel the story-boarding workshops could have been a lot shorter and it felt like i was hanging around waiting to be told i could start, However, in retrospect, i wish i'd done more story-boarding, as i found the approach of sitting down to a computer and hoping for the best was very difficult.
This approach taught me how to use the software by experimenting with my own assets before rushing to any conclusion. I felt like i had to complete all of the prints before beginning any animation, as i struggled to make the existing two images move- i had looked at them for too long and didn't have any clue what to do with them anymore.
It got to the point where i just had force myself to Sit Down And Do It.
My final animation was actually very satisfying to make- it became quite a repetitive motion once i was used to the software. I'm still not the most confident at using photoshop, let alone after effects, so separating all the assets in a way that would work was probably the most enduring bit. It was super lovely watching it all come together.

I made the rookie error of overriding my photoshop file which had half my assets on- this deleted them off my completed animation and I very
I nearly had a breakdown and gave up- but i didn't! And this is probably my biggest development- persevering under stress! Plus i learned to never do THAT again. And i have a greater understanding of the software. Winner winner.

I wish i had done a bit more research into other stings, so i had a better idea of what mine would turn out like. However, i am EXCEEDINGLY happy with my animation- despite it being very simple i feel it has a small story line and i'm very very happy with the way the name forms at the end.
it really helped working in the studio with lots of others going though the same thing and learning processes with after effects- we all kinda gave each other a hand which was lovely.

The sound i chose for it was a simple track of wooden wind chimes- i didn't really give it much thought but i think goes with the movements in the animation and the way things progress, such as the apples falling. I didn't want a naff rainfall track or twee music over the top because i already struggled with the idea of it being too pink and cartoon-y to begin with. I trialed with having some street noises to bring it closer to Zadie Smith's north London life, however these just didn't really fit. I'm happy with the outcome and for once am very proud of something i've made! I recognise that there are some issues with the final outcome in terms of just refining it and perfecting it, but these issues aren't noticeable and don't really affect the overall outcome, and add to the sketchy-ness of it, so i have decided to leave it.

I'm pleased with my outcome, and the fact i overcame the anxieties and difficulties that came with using after effects. I always wanted to learn how to animate, and here i am! Definitely using this software again, 10/10.

happy happy days
