Evaluation (See guidance below for
more information)
You
are required to write a 500 word evaluation of this module.
When
this course started, I had an immediate feeling that I wouldn’t want to be
doing anything else- I felt safe and welcomed and the work was challenging,
but in a good way. The module has been very well planned and thorough,
covering all aspects of the discipline without being too restrictive. I feel
like I understand the discipline a lot more now than at the beginning, and
feel reassured that it is a worthwhile practice.
Getting
used to the workload of three different aspects of the course while keeping
on top of the blog has been challenging, but a welcome new experience- I feel
a lot more professional than I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed learning some
new skills- such as the screen-printing, and the Adobe Photoshop and
Illustrator workshops- I particularly enjoyed learning how to use a Wacom
tablet and using gouache for the first time. Playbook has been useful to my
practice with studio briefs as it has taught me how to follow through with my
ideas on paper and practice multiple image making methods, like drawing and
collage, which became useful in my studio briefs.
I
really enjoyed collage, on the shape and texture session where we made large
self-portraits. I felt this came easily to me and was really fun to execute
and see everyone else’s results too. I
was really pleased with my Persons of Note outcome as well- I feel that
although it was challenging, it got very good feedback and I feel quite proud
of the result.
I
feel like I could have used my blog more to my advantage to log more of my
own personal thoughts and projects, and I also feel like I could have managed
my time a lot better- this is something I am definitely working on, but
sometimes lack in motivation leads to me leaving things a little bit too
late, when I could have just faced it early on and produced work I could feel
proud of. In the next module I will definitely make more time for work I have allocated, and try to go above and
beyond what I expect of myself, instead of settling for what I deem
‘alright’. In the next module I will also develop my skills on Illustrator
and Photoshop- and spend more time creating work I enjoy with media I enjoy
more- like collage and paint.
Overall
the feedback for my work has been very positive- even the group crit sessions
where I didn’t bring a lot of work to the table, I got very lovely feedback
from my peers and inspiration on what I could work on and work I could create.
The feedback sessions always helped me find a new way of thinking or develop
a concept further into something would be happy with, and always made me feel
like the work I had produced was worthwhile and good. I feel appreciated among my tutors and
peers with the work I have made, and I hope to continue to grow with their
support.
Contextual
research has been very crucial to my practice, and the library has been an
invaluable source of information at my fingertips. The research I have done
has been quite internet-based and I plan on using more first-hand research
techniques and make use of the library and my tutors more.

Evaluation Guidance
This should be a reflective summary
of your experience across the module
How did it go? Where did
your journey start, where did it end?
Begin with
an overarching summary of the module as you look back over it. How has the
module impacted on your understanding of the discipline? What were your
expectations of the course and how have they been met?
What learning took place? What
was useful to you?
Be specific.
New skills? New methods? New processes or approaches?
Did you use
the blog to reflect on your project development? How has Playbook impacted on
your studio briefs?
What went well and why?
What did you enjoy? What were you happy with as an outcome?
Be critical
and analytical. Why did you enjoy it? Perhaps identify particular sessions?
This could
be ideas, solutions to problems, studentship or research. How well did you use
the studio? Did you invest enough time in the development and testing of your
outcomes?
What could you have done
better?
What were
the problems you faced? What did you do to try to overcome them? This could be
in reference to studentship, organization, blogging or studentship?.
How can you apply what you
have learnt here for future modules and projects?
Application
and future thinking. Things you would do differently next time? What useful
methods, processes and ideas will you take forward into the next module?
Feedback
What other
people (tutors and peers) thought of work and how you responded to that
feedback? What did you get from the differing feedback sessions?
Research
Did you use contextual
research to inform your ideas, ways of thinking or understanding of the
challenges set. This may include further research of your subject matter,
slides from the presentations or use of the library.
