Playbook 1 Reflective Report
Initial reactions to the Playbook Brief---
- a good nice way to kick off the whole thing
- a good nice way to explore our own stuff and style and it be okay
-a good nice way to get into the swing of things after a very long summer
The Zoo task
I feel that as a first task in the whole degree, it was very fun and easy to get stuck into, and although seemed daunting to draw 100 animals immediately, was easy to complete and over quickly. it was fun adhering to a deadline for the first time, and also critiquing each-others and my own work. I feel that the drawings became more successful when I stopped using reference pictures and focused more on the drawing and repeating the movements to recreate what i thought to be successful. I feel like i ended up with some quirky characterful lil hippos that i feel were relatively successful, as they made people laugh, which i enjoy.
Drawing on Location : Grassington
I feel like my drawings in Grassington were okay, ish. they were all drawn very quickly due to the weather conditions and all draw in in a very boring shade of mechanical pencil grey, for ease of use and transporting on the go. I like the drawings though, i feel they were successful as they are quite descriptive.
Drawing from reference-
The task we did was good because it got us to remember so many details and get us into the flow of recreating something accurately without doing a direct copy, it tested our memory and made us select the most important details. . i found my drawings were more successful at first than the latter ones as i knew less about the drawing and wasn't getting bogged down in all the fiddly bits and over complicating it.
Drawing form observation-
Very valuable skill, conditions can change, can change angles and lighting and temperature and shape so very important to capture whats in front of you as it is likely to change and never be the same again. Also notice more details and more depth from observation than reference- the task we did was lovely because it was fun to experiment with styles and ways of drawing and media and all that, it was lovely to fingerpaint and draw with a dry brush and see people working with negative space and washes of ink and all sorts, people were getting so creative and it was lovely.
